Through experiments, 100 g of fresh carrots had an average residue of 21.759 g. The average value of the protein was 1.000 g, and the average ash content was 12.342 g. The fiber analyzer measured 8.42% of the total carrot content. This result shows that the fiber content of carrots is higher than other vegetables (the fiber content of other vegetables is generally 1%-2%). So, from this perspective, carrots are more suitable for vegetable paper than other vegetables.
Fibermeters measure low molecular weight and unrestricted molecular chains so that the hydroxyl groups of hemicellulose select and bind to the hydroxyl surface of the less mobile cellulose surface. The lignin content in the slurry is high, and the resulting carrot paper has poor bonding strength and is easily brittle. Therefore, in order to meet the needs, when preparing carrot paper, it is necessary to add suitable additives (such as plasticizers) to the pulp so as to reduce the brittleness of the paper to be suitable for packaging.
Carrot fiber has the most lignin content, followed by cellulose, and the least is hemicellulose. The content of hemicellulose in the fiber analyzer has an important influence on the strength of the paper. Hemicellulose has a shorter molecular chain than cellulose and is more hydrophilic. Therefore, the higher the hemicellulose content in the pulp, the better the hydration during beating and the faster the degree of beating.
