What is the main impact of water on flotation?
(1) Dissolution of various substances in water. Because water has a large dipole moment, the ore particles in the water interact with water. Due to the dissolution of the substance in water, the water used in the flotation is mainly capable of dissolving the substance, because the water itself is soluble in various organic and inorganic compounds. Therefore, during the flotation process, water quality control (such as softening, removal of inevitable ions, aeration oxidation, etc.) is performed. (2) Hydration. The ions dissolved in water are surrounded by the dipole of water, which is the hydration of ions. If the mineral is hydrated, the floatability will be reduced. For certain hydrophobic mineral particles. (such as sulfur, coal , molybdenite , etc.), its hydration is weak; and some hydrophilic minerals (such as oxidized ore and quartz ), hydration is stronger. However, it should be noted that the most important role of water in flotation is to form a slurry, which facilitates the floating of bubbles by the mineral under the action of the agent.
